Executive Coaching NDMA Inc.: Executive coaching
the organizational and political issues

BENEFITS OF AN EXECUTIVE COACH:

What executives get from a coach:

  • Perspective: a time set aside on a regular basis to step out of the weeds and see the forest.

  • Objectivity: a sounding-board who understands the issues at your level, and as an outsider, has no vested interests.

  • Truth: someone who will be completely honest and tell you when you're wrong or force you to listen to alternative views.

  • Frameworks and insights: useful ideas, frameworks, and processes based on a long and focused career and on past experiences with your peers.

  • Motivation: personal deadlines to accomplish leadership objectives before the next scheduled coaching session.

A client explains the value of coaching....

"As a CIO, I've really come to appreciate the value of a confidential executive coach.

"I know I should be thinking "out of the box," but sometimes I feel stuck in a rut. And there are times when I admit that I can't see the forest for the trees.

"There are other times when I've got a vision and need help thinking through the details of how to translate it into reality. And of course, there are many times when I've decided a path forward, but I just want to be sure I see all the potholes ahead."

UNIQUE FOCUS OF DEAN'S COACHING:

Coaches come in different flavors, focusing on your career, interpersonal and supervisory skills, business strategies, technologies, or personal work habits. Dean's focus is unique:

Dean Meyer coaches CIOs and executive-level change agents on organizational, political, and leadership issues.

His perspective and advice are grounded in the business-within-a-business paradigm. This helps you tune all your strategies, actions, policies, and language based on a consistent vision of the end-point: provider of choice to your clients, and employer of choice to your staff.

Examples of questions and issues that Dean's coaching has addressed....

"First as a CIO of a rapidly growing company and now as I sit on several Boards of Directors, I've dealt with many significant issues and critical decisions. Over the last 10 years, Dean has helped me dissect and reflect in a calm setting. His coaching was invaluable, and definitely contributed to the goals which we achieved."
James Walker
former CIO, WMC Mortgage

COMPREHENSIVE COACHING FRAMEWORK:

Dean has teamed with leading executive coach Barbara Healy to develop a comprehensive framework for coaching and professional growth.

The Transitions ABCD framework considers four key transitions in the course of one's career: from student to team member, to manager, to executive. At each of these transitions, we learn new things - new paradigms, new skills, and new behaviors. In parallel, we grow as people, both in terms of our political savvy and our personal power.

Of course, the lessons of the transitions are cumulative. For example, a leader who's running a line of business has been through transition C, but needs all the lessons of A, B, and C to succeed.

Most of us weren't conscious of all the things we needed to learn at each transition. As a result, we may have missed some lessons along the way.

Dean and Barbara use the Transitions ABCD framework to help leaders identify any gaps, and then develop a personal plan to close those gaps.

Between Barbara's focus on Transitions A and B and on personal growth, and Dean's focus on Transitions C and D and political strategies, they team to offer leaders whatever is needed in coaching and professional growth planning.

HOW COACHING RELATIONSHIPS WORK:

Dean listens to you, and helps you get a perspective with a combination of common sense built over 35 years in the IT industry and his compelling business-within-a-business paradigm.

Then he works with you to plan practical solutions, drawing from a wealth of implementation experiences and proven systemic change processes.

"Dean can generate more new ideas in five minutes than most people can in five weeks. He is truly an original thinker, and his insights have strongly influenced my philosophy and business outlook over the last 25 years."
Sandy Kyrish, Ph.D.
Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration
School of Communications and Theater, Temple University

Coaching is delivered as needed via scheduled telephone meetings and periodic private "off-campus" days together.

"Over the last 12 years while I've held the most senior IT management roles in three organizations, I've very much appreciated Dean's counsel. Dean's extensive knowledge, clear thinking, and his ability to examine issues beyond the superficial level set him apart."
Cecil Wright
CIO, Flint Energy Services

TRACK RECORD:

Executives who have benefitted from Dean's coaching are from diverse corporations, governments, and not-for-profit institutions, including Abbott Laboratories, Eisner LLC, Flint Energy, Modine Automotive, Ubiquity Foods, WMC Mortgage, State of California, The Assemblies of God Headquarters, and Compassion International.

"Dean, you have had a profound impact on my view of the world, and I consider you a friend and a brilliant advisor."
Michael Moore

"I have been working with Dean for about a year, and I have found him to be one of the most insightful business people I have had the pleasure to know. He has provided concrete business based solutions and structures for adding real value to an IT organization. I would highly recommend him to any organization wanting to bring an IT organization into close alignment with business objectives."
